Beautiful Wet and Needle Felted Creations by Vera Runova

Wet and Needle Felted Red Poppy Flower

Needle Felted Red Cherries With Leaf and Stem

These amazing creations were made by Vera Runova of Minnesota! Originally from Kazakhstan, Vera was familiar with wet felting the traditional Kazakh “yurtas.” She said, “I never thought that felt could be amazingly light, beautiful, bright colored and be putty in your hands.” We couldn’t agree more Vera!

Wet and Needle Felted Flowers on Bag

In all these creations, Vera wet felts her base, then needle felts the finishing touches to give panache.

Charlotte Ellenburg of Alabama last treated us to some wonderful felted pumpkins and today she shares this beautiful blue wet felted vessel.  Notice the dark blue contrast with fibers and blanket stitching, plus the distinctive elk horn button which also serves as a decorative knob for the lid. A lovely and functional piece of fiber art!

Felted Magical Delights in Many Varieties!

Lisa Bondurant lives in Virginia, and shares that she spends her time raising kids, gathering eggs, cutting wood, scoping out trees for tapping, making syrup in the last days of winter, watching her garden NOT grow in the summer, writing, wishing that there were more hours on the clock for sleeping. She creates along with my mother; Mom crochets and sews and Lisa wet felts and needle felts All of their designs are original and free hand, Lisa never use a pattern or template.

I was a Milk House Girl, which meant I milked a lot of cows, and Sweetpea the Cow was my very favorite cow in the world! Every morning she met me with a nudge of her pink nose and a hug, yes a hug! She would curl her neck around and squeeeeeeeze me against her side until I scratched her ear, told her she was the most wonderful cow in the world, that she was the sweetest cow in the world and that she was still my favorite cow. I have a lot of stories to tell about Sweetpea and one day I will. Until then this bar is inspired and dedicated to Sweetpea my friend always!

“Love You Love Ewe” felted bar. Created for Valentines Day or anytime you need to say I Love You. I use quick felting core fibers to help with felting with a soft merino tops over to give it a gentle touch to the skin. I then needle felt my design onto the dry bar. We live in the mountains above the Shenandoah valley and every time we look out the window we are inspired by nature and the life around us.

Chickadee microwavable hand warmers made from salvaged felted sweaters. We then fill with rice and I needle felt the chickadee and berry branch onto the front. We love chickadees and watch them feed just at the edge of our woods everyday. These are great to make from bits and pieces of leftover felt or sweaters from a larger project.

“Way Too Fluffy Family” felted bar set. Again I use a quick felt core fiber with soft merino over the top to wet felt. After drying I use black, pink and white to needle felt my family onto them. Inspired by the fluffy white sheep that dot the green Valley every Spring. Needle felting soap can be a challenge! If you hold the needle at the wrong angle or poke too hard the needle tip can break and ruin your bar.

My mom crocheted the bowl from Burly Spun white and we felted it down in the washer. After felting I needle felted the pink rose on the side and 1 rose on the bottom of the bowl. We have a wild pink rose in our back yard and seeing it bloom just makes me happy!

Salvaged sweater bag made from a rescued Irish Home Craft sweater that was bought at the thrift store. We felted it down in the washing machine then turned it into 3 different bags. I needle felt the design onto it with my hand dyed Merino. Felting sweaters is so easy after felting bars of soap!

A Lovely Variety of Felted Scarves

Fatima-Kaser1

Fatima Kasar felts wonderful wool scarves in a variety of styles.
She first learned to felt in Amsterdam, and now that she is back in the states, she has resumed her felting.

We love the bright and bold colors of this scarf that seem very appropriate
for Fatima’s lovely young model and daughter.

Fatima uses primarily Merino Top and Mohair Locks for her scarves; some are pure wool and others are nuno felted over a silk base.

A very elegant wrap for an elegant lady.

Fatima is currently averaging almost a scarf a day, making them mostly for friends and family in their choice of colors.

Lucky them!

Felted Holiday Table Runner

Felted Holiday Table Runner

Julie King of Corvallis, MT needle and wet felted this festive holiday table runner.

This lovely pieces measures 16″ x 42″. Julie wet felted the base from dark green merino blend wool with silk threads and then she needle felted the vines, leaves and stars afterwards.

Great work, Julie! We know this will inspire many more holiday decorations in years to come!

Put that Felted Turkey to Work!

Needle Felted Turkey Tape Measure

Sharen Johnson shares another fun and functional felt creation!

“Introducing Timothy Thomas Turkey otherwise known as Tim-Tom was needle felted with a structure first
of Living Felt’s super new Merino cross-core wool. It felts so nicely and really enables me to add fine details.
After constructing the base in core wool I use dyed Merino top wool for color and extra details.
I generally prefer to use solid dyed colors and blend them as I go.

Tim-Tom is a pincushion with an added feature. He holds a retractable tape measure inside
and by pulling the bottom layer of tail feathers you can unfurl the tape.
Retracting it involves pushing a button hidden under his wing feathers.

I have been listing my specialty pincushion/tape measure novelties on www.sharryJo.etsy.com
in the past and they have been well received so I am excited to be back to felting once again.
I am so grateful for Living Felt’s quality products. They bring out the creative gene in me.”

Gorgeous Knit and Fulled Purses with Needle Felted Designs

Needle Felting Birds onto Knit Items

Leedra Scott creates wonderful art on her custom knit purses with freehand needle felting. This lovely purse is her design, and she shares a little more on her method for needle felting onto knit items.

“ I knit my purses and [washing] machine felt.  I thoroughly dry the purse before beginning any needle felting, Looking at a photograph I apply a small amount of roving and place on the purse where it looks right to me.  All my designs are freehand, so I can’t even duplicate.   I totally apply with the felting needles and mostly use the one needle application for the complete design.  I prefer the New Zealand Corriedale roving, but do have others that I include in the designs.

I have very small amounts of roving from others usually a color picked up at a local fiber festival. I would say 95% of my roving came from Living Felt.  I also have tried other needles, but don’t like them at all.  They are in a box for ‘just in case’…”

Her creativity flows forth through different mediums, and you can see more from Leedra online:

Felt Birdhouse – Move in Ready!

Felted Bird House

Don’t let the sand and cactus fool you, it gets down right cold in the desert overnight. Donna Lambert has wet felted this wonderful birdhouse using a resist, Merino top and New Zealand Corriedale.

She shares, “The branch is wet and needle felted. A bit of beading on the leaves and a Kumihimo braided hanger to top it off. Lots of fun to make and move in ready!”
